Do not let your adornment be [merely] outward--arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on [fine] apparel-- rather [let it be] the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible [beauty] of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. - 1 Peter 3:3-4 NKJV
Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward [man] is being renewed day by day. - 2 Corinthians 4:16 NKJV
The inward person is the real you. The hidden man (person) of the heart. This is the person on the inside that you can't see with your natural eyes.
Like Paul said to the church in Corinth, we may be perishing (decaying) on the outside but when we walk with Jesus and grow spiritually we are being renewed day by day. It is our responsibility to renew ourselves daily with God's word.
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." Romans 12:1–2 (NKJV)
When we submit ourselves to God daily and put on the mind of Christ by renewing our minds with the word of God, we are renewing ourselves. Our heart (spirit) is becoming stronger. Our faith in God and His word is growing stronger and feeding our spirit.
“But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4, (NKJV)
Because we are a spirit we need food for our spirit. The word of God is life and truth that gives us nourishment spiritually. Without feeding on the word daily we become weak. When we become weak spiritually it is more difficult to believe what God says is true. If we are not strong spiritually we will tend to doubt God. Again, it is up to us to feed ourselves daily on God's word so that we are strong and our faith is growing.
We are responsible to grow the inward man of the heart daily by feeding on spiritual food which is God's word. The more that we feed on His word the more likely we are to believe God's promises regardless of the circumstances or opposition.
Say this:
I am growing on the inside everyday because I am feeding on God's word. His word is food for my inner man. I am strong spiritually and quick to believe God.
Pray this:
Lord, Your word is more valuable to me than my natural food. Thank you for speaking Your word to me by Your Spirit today. I have hidden Your word in my heart and have stored it up so that at any moment You can bring it to my remembrance. Remind me of what You have spoken to me. You have my attention. In Jesus Name
