Acts 4:23–24 (AMP)
After they were permitted to go, [the apostles] returned to their own [company] and told all that the chief priests and elders had said to them. And when they heard it, lifted their voices together with one united mind to God and said, O Sovereign Lord, You are He Who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything that is in them,
When Peter and John were released from prison they had a place to go to and were surrounded by people of like precious faith. This fellowship that they had with "their own company" or as one version puts it "their own companions" was a supernatural fellowship. Peter and John did not need to be comforted mentally and emotionally, they needed to be strengthened by the faith of their friends and brothers in the Lord.
Sympathy will only go so far. We need faith-filled friends to strengthen our faith.
It is extremely important that we have fellowship with the body of Christ, and in particular a local church, during the times where our faith is challenged. We need people around us of like precious faith to stand with us and speak the word of God to us.
We need the spiritual support of those who know us and love us. This kind of support can only be found in "your own company" (your local church, your family of faith).
There was another time where Peter was in prison and was scheduled to be executed but the Church began to pray for him. The power and glory was manifested from their united prayer and an angel of the Lord freed him from the prison.
It pays to have fellowship with believers who walk in power and know how to pray!
Be encouraged today that there are those in the body of Christ who love you and stand beside you in faith. If you don't have a local church to call home find one and join yourself to those with like precious faith!
Confession:
"I am a part of the glorious church. I was created by God for fellowship with the body of Christ. I am surrounded by believers with like precious faith. I join myself to local church in order to surround others with my faith and love. I purpose in my heart to believe with others when they take a stand of faith. The connections that I have in the body are becoming stronger and stronger."
