A Powerful Prayer Meeting - Day 2

“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:1–4, NKJV)

“And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” (Acts 1:4–5, NKJV)

The Church started in power!

What a prayer meeting to be in. The sound of a tornado and the vision of fire! Of course the place that they were in was not destroyed by wind or fire but it was a supernatural manifestation of power that was seen and heard by all who were there. And then the manifestation of speaking with other tongues began to take place as they spoke. I have been in some powerful prayer meetings but never one that had all of that going on at the same time. Power always needs a demonstration.

Jesus gave His disciples instruction to receive power before doing anything else. This is significant. If the Church needed power then, how much more does the Church need power now?

The promise of power came as a response to their obedience.

The same is true of us today. We need to pray in the power of the Holy Spirit. We need to be filled and stay full of the power of the Holy Spirit. So there are times when we need to come together and pray with passion and fervency. Obeying Jesus from the heart and not the head.

This is the challenge we have in prayer at times when we pray only from our head and not our heart.

What I mean by praying only by our head is that we have our prayer list and we pray over each item on the prayer list like we would check off a grocery list and then we are done. We have completed our “duty” so to speak. (And believe me, I have done this many times.)

But I believe the power in the time of prayer is when we pray directed by the person of the Holy Spirit, from our heart. He lives in our heart not our head. Passion and fervency in prayer flow from the heart as we are stirred by the Holy Spirit.

Today, focus on the DUNAMIS power of the Holy Spirit and spend time waiting in prayer as you stir up the passion and fervency. Don’t hesitate to pray for someone or something that is not on your prayer list. Follow the Holy Spirit for a powerful time of prayer.
