We've been talking in particular about our dedication and commitment to do God's will. This week we're going to focus more on how we receive instruction from God about what he wants us to do.
Yesterday's sermon was on the subject of humility and we used the example of Moses. If you were not in the service with us yesterday, I encourage you to go back and watch or listen to the yesterday’s message.
So we began the message using the scripture from Numbers chapter 12 verse 3 where it says, "Now the man Moses was very humble more than all men who were on the face of the Earth".
When God makes this statement, it is worth noticing. When God says that Moses was more humble than all men on the Earth, our natural question is why? Why was Moses the most humble man?
Studying the life of Moses and observing how God used him to deliver the children of Israel, Moses was a man of prayer. Moses met with God regularly. He learned how to seek the Lord and to find out what the Lord wanted him to do specifically.
I believe that can be seen in Exodus chapter 3 when Moses encountered God on the mountain.
“Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.”” (Exodus 3:1–3, NKJV)
So we could say that on a very normal day Moses saw something very unusual. A bush that is burning without burning up is a very extraordinary sight. Moses saw this and did not dismiss it but instead turned aside to see why this bush was burning without burning up.
I believe that God had pre-scheduled a meeting with Moses. God wanted to speak with Moses and the burning bush was His calling card. We know the reason that God wanted to meet with Moses is so that he could give him instruction about the next step that God wanted him to take.
There are so many points to learn from this encounter with God at the burning bush, but I believe that one of the major points is that God wants to meet with us, to give us instruction about what he wants us to do.
We can see from Moses's response that he was curious and intrigued with this unusual sight and actually came closer to the bush and then God called out his name.
So, this is the question that I want to leave with you this morning, God wants to meet with you to give you instruction about your next step…
Are you intrigued and curious about what he has to say?
Are you willing to turn aside from the normal duties of the day to see something unusual that God would use to call a meeting with you?
Are you ready to hear his voice and open your heart to receive his instruction?
