Today's word is "REVEAL".
To reveal something is like taking the cover off of something that has been hidden. In order to see under the cover we have to pull off the veil so to speak.
We all have moments in our lives where we take a brief look at ourselves and think that everything is okay. That's what happens when we just take a quick glance. But if we want to truly understand our heart and our motives, we need to open our spiritual eyes and take a deeper look using the truth of God's word.
The Holy Spirit reveals our innermost thoughts and intentions when we look at ourselves through the lens of God's Word which is living, active word - sharper than any two-edged sword - piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Let’s break down why it is important for us to see ourselves through God’s eyes. It is necessary for us to be honest with ourselves about what is really going on inside us. It can be hard to do this because every way of a man can seem right in his own eyes but only God weighs the heart (Proverbs 21:2). It is only when we see ourselves through God’s eyes that we are able to gain insight into our real motives and recognize areas where we need to grow or change. When this happens we become spiritually stronger because it forces us to confront uncomfortable truths about ourselves which can lead us towards greater repentance, humility, purity and holiness as followers of Jesus. We need to see ourselves through his Word.
God knows everything about us – even more than we know about ourselves – so it makes sense that he would use his powerful word as a tool for revealing these things to us. In fact, one reason why studying the word of God is so essential for Christians is because it helps us understand who God wants us to be by exposing who we are not. As James 1:22-25 says “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only...If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless...But he must ask in faith without any doubting…” Studying the word helps us understand who we are and how He sees us. We learn how we should respond in different situations while making sure we don’t deceive our hearts which could be motivated by pride or selfish ambition rather than love for others or love for Jesus Christ.
Seeing ourselves through the lens of scripture can be both challenging yet very rewarding if we do it with humility and an earnest desire to follow Jesus. We can be tempted just to take a quick glance at ourselves rather than open our spiritual eyes and digging deep to see ourselves from an eternal perspective; understanding our true identity in Christ; and recognizing areas where we need to grow; being honest about your motives; learning how we should respond in different situations.
We also need to make sure that we are being rooted in love instead of pride or selfish ambition; knowing what Jesus has done for us; appreciating our value as a person created by God; growing closer day by day with him - all which come from seeing yourself through His eyes!
So don't hesitate - go to the word of God today! He will reveal things about yourself that nothing else can!
