To Embrace Correction is to Love Wisdom and Life

To Embrace Correction is to Love Wisdom and Life

Proverbs 12:1  NKJV “Whoever loves instruction and correction loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid and foolish.”

Wisdom is revealed in us by how we respond to correction.  It shows our level of maturity and integrity.  The person who loves discipline doesn’t necessarily enjoy being told they are wrong but it shows they are someone who values growth more than pride or self-preservation.  They have an understanding that where there is correction it will increase their knowledge, refining their judgment, limiting future mistakes, while strengthening them overall and increasing their value.  This makes them an asset!

Correction is not humiliation, it’s education.  A wise builder welcomes the inspection, because if something hasn’t been constructed well, they will want to know where to bring corrections and repair to avoid collapse.

To embrace correction is to love stability.

Proverbs doesn’t soften the other side of correction.  It states the one who hates correction is foolish, Why?  Because rejecting correction is to reject growth, knowledge.  It’s choosing ignorance over insight.  It’s protecting “ego” instead of protecting the future.

When someone refuses instruction:

  • They repeat avoidable mistakes
  • They resist accountability
  • They slowly drift from right alignment
  • They weaken their foundation.

Correction can feel uncomfortable for a moment, but the Consequences last much longer. Wisdom teaches us to lean in when God adjusts us…… through His Word, every adjustment strengthens us.

The foolish protect pride;  The wise protect the structure.

Let’s ask ourselves:  Do I love growth and stability more than being right?

Building With Wisdom,
Pastor Sheila
