Tthe third area of our soul is our will. Just like our mind and our emotions, our will is a very critical area. The enemy knows if he can wear our minds and our emotions down to the point where we are weary, he can have more influence over our will.
Our will can be called our "chooser", or the decision making area of our soul. God created us with a will to choose and make a decision. He gave us a choice. He did not create us as robots, pre-programmed to do exactly what he wants us to do. He always gives us a choice.
We can have a good thought from the Holy Spirit, and never choose to act on it, and that thought will never benefit us, or accomplish God's purpose in giving us that thought to begin with.
You can tell that your will is weary and worn down when it is hard to make a decision. Indecisiveness is an indicator that you need a refilling of the Holy Spirit, and the word of God.
Let's establish the fact that God created us with a free will. Here are the Scriptures. Revelation 3:20 "Behold, I'm standing at the door knocking. If your heart is open to hear my voice and you open the door within, I will come into you and feast with you, and you will feast with me." This is actually the scripture that I became born-again with during an evangelistic service 48 years ago. I remember the moment when I gave Jesus the key to my heart, and He came in to live in me, forever. I chose to make Jesus the Lord of my life. Of course we have Romans 10:9-10, that if we declare with our mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in our heart, that God raised him from the dead, we will be saved. The heart believes and the mouth confesses based on a decision of our will. Mark 8:34. Jesus said, "if you truly want to follow me, you should at once completely disown your own life. And you must be willing to share my cross and experience it as your own, as you continually surrender to my ways. This happens because of a quality decision. Our free will is a powerful thing.
When we ask the Lord to search our soul, we are asking him to search our will as well. We are actually asking Him, "Lord show me if my will is truly submitted to Your will." "Lord, show me if I'm too quick when making a decision." "Lord, show me the motives behind my decision." Search me Lord and show me where my motives may be wrong in any area. My desire is that my will line up with Your will totally, 100% of the time. I surrender my will to You.
Allowing the Lord, to search the motives of your heart that affect your will is an extremely deep dive. This is a prayer of total consecration that leaves us open, exposed, and transparent before the Lord. This is the point that we actually make Jesus the Lord of our life. Giving him full access to everything about us is transformational.
