Assets vs. Liabilities

Assets vs. Liabilities

We’ve all heard the phrase, “Asset or Liability.” It is a financial term, but we can use it to examine our lives.

Asset: Something valuable that adds strength, increases worth, and produces growth.

Liability: Something that drains, weakens, subtracts value, and creates risk or loss.
Spiritually and relationally speaking, we are one or the other.

Proverbs 12:4 (AMPC) says, “An virtuous and worthy wife, strong in character, is a crowning joy to her husband; but she who makes him ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.”

“A wife with strength of character is the crown of her husband, but she who disgraces him is like cancer in his bones.” - GNT

A crown represents honor, dignity, strength, and reward. She is an asset.

  • A wise and honorable woman adds strength, not strain.
  • She brings value, not deficit.
  • She offers insight, not confusion.
  • She enhances beauty; she does not create blemish.

Notice the contrast: rot in the bones is internal. It weakens from within. It cannot be seen at first, but it slowly destroys strength. That is a liability.

Wisdom is not directed toward women alone. For men, husbands, and fathers, Scripture is equally clear.

Psalm 1 describes a blessed man who refuses ungodly influence, delights in God’s Word, and lives rooted in truth. He is stable, fruitful, dependable, and prosperous — a steady strength in his home. His integrity builds security. He is not a drifting liability but a solid asset.

As believers, we desire to be assets in our homes — bringing peace, stability, strength, encouragement, truth, and faith. Wisdom doesn’t just live in the house; it becomes the support system of it.

Father God, we desire to be an asset that is increasing strength to our families, our marriages, our children, our businesses, and our church. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
