Your Words Set Direction

James 3:3  “We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth.”   NLT

“If we set bits in the horses’ mouths to get them to obey us, we can turn their whole bodies about.”    AMPC
 
The Book of James compares the tongue to the small bit placed in a horse’s mouth.  Though tiny, it has the power to direct the huge animal wherever the rider wants to go.  In the same way, our words help direct the course of our lives, relationships and atmosphere.  
 
Many people underestimate the power of everyday words.  But words can strengthen or discourage, heal or wound, calm or inflame.  

The tone we set in our homes, marriages, workplaces, and churches often begins with what comes out of our mouth.  
 
Wisdom teaches us to slow down and ask:
“Are my words helping move things in the right direction?”
