Offense Builds Walls

Offense Builds Walls

Proverbs 18:19  “A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city, and contentions are like the bars of a castle.”

TPT =  “It’s easier to conquer a strong city than to win back a friend whom you’ve offended.  Their walls go up, making it nearly impossible to win them back.”

Offense has a hardening effect on the human heart.  What may begin as a small hurt, misunderstanding or disappointment can eventually become a fortified wall between people.  Proverbs compares an offended person to a strong city with bars across its gates…. Closed off, guarded and difficult to reach.

This is why offense is so dangerous, it doesn’t merely wound relationships, it isolates hearts.  Offended people often become suspicious, defensive, and emotionally distant.  They begin interpreting conversations, actions, and motives through the filter of hurt rather than love and confidence.

The enemy delights in offense because it separates what God intended to remain united.  Marriages, friendships, churches, families, and ministry teams have all been weakened because offense was allowed to grow unchecked.

Wisdom teaches us to deal with offenses quickly before they become strongholds.  Bitterness never improves with time or age;  It deepens.  Healing begins when humility, forgiveness, and honest communication replace silent resentment and inward rehearsing.  God never intended for us to live guarded, hardened and isolated .

Wisdom Statement:  “Offense builds wall where love once built bridges.”
