Rule Your Spirit

Rule Your Spirit

Proverbs 16:32  “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit that he who takes the city.”  AMPC

TPT =“Do you want to be a mighty warrior?  It’s better to be known as one who is patient and slow to anger.  Do you want to conquer a city?  Rule over your temper before you attempt to rule a city.”

The world often defines strength by outward power, dominance or influence.  But Proverbs reveals a higher kind of strength – The ability to govern your own spirit.  According to God’s Word, a person who controls their emotions is stronger than a warrior who conquers a city.

Anyone can react emotionally; Anyone can lose their temper.  But wisdom produces restraint, stability and spiritual discipline.  Self-control is evidence that the Holy Spirit is influencing our thoughts, emotions and responses.

An offended person often feels justified in their anger.  But unresolved anger opens the door to strife, confusion and poor decisions.  The enemy wants Believers emotionally because instability weakens discernment and disrupts peace.

A Spirit-governed life is not emotionless, but it’s disciplined.  We can feel deeply without allowing our emotions to control us.  Wisdom teaches us how to pause, pray and submit our reactions to the Lord before responding.   True spiritual authority begins with governing ourselves.

Wisdom Statement:  “The strongest person in the room is the one who can govern their own spirit.”
