The Fear of Man Is A Trap

The Fear of Man Is A Trap

Proverbs 29:25  “The fear of man brings a snare and a trap, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be saved and safe.”

Wisdom Statement:  Many poor decisions are made because people fear the opinion of others more than they trust God.

The fear of man is a trap because it causes us to put human approval above God’s approval.  It tempts us to compromise convictions, remain silent when we should speak or follow the crowd instead of God.  In the Bible, we see individuals who stood firm despite opposition because they revered God more than people.  Daniel continued to pray.  The three Hebrew young men refused to bow.  The apostles declared, “We ought to obey God rather than men.”

Fear of people’s opinions can become a powerful distraction from God’s purpose.  When we are constantly concerned about what others think, we become vulnerable to compromise and instability.  Wisdom recognizes that human opinion changes, but God’s Word never changes.

A wise Believer seeks God’s direction first and trusts Him with the outcome.  True freedom is found when our identity is rooted in Christ rather than in the approval of others.

The more secure we become in who we are in Christ, the less influence the opinions of others will have over our lives.  Trusting God brings confidence, stability and peace.

When our desire is to please Him above all else, we are free to walk in wisdom and obedience regardless of the pressures around us.

Building Wisdom:  Those who live for the approval of people will eventually be controlled by people. Those who live for the approval of God will walk in freedom.

Prayer:  “Father, help me place Your approval above every other opinion. Strengthen me to stand firmly on Your Word and refuse the trap of compromise. Let my identity be rooted in who You say I am, and give me the courage to obey You regardless of the pressures around me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.”

Declare:
"I am secure in who God says I am. I trust the Lord and walk in His wisdom."
